Safetytips Cooking offers tips, and education on how to safely handle, prepare and serve food from the home kitchen that is safe for consumption and prevents a foodborne illness. Foodborne illnesses (aka food poisioning) is not a topic talked about within the community and the homes of people that receives home care. Most people think that you can only get a foodborne illness from a restaurant but, it can happen in your own kitchen. A restaurant kitchen runs similiar to a home kitchen, there's a cook, food, purchasing of food, receiving food, food is prepared for strangers "at times" or people we know, there's dishes, cleaning, seats and types of bacteria's.

The difference is one cook has food safety education and the other cook do not!

• #1The Center for Disease Control estimates that 48 million people in the United States eill get a foodborne illness that can result in hospitalization, long term affects, and/or death.  

• #2- People that are high risk of getting a foodborne illness are, the elderly 65yrs and over with underlying health conditions, i.e. high blood pressure, diabetes.

• #3- Cancer Patients- compromised immune system makes it hard to fight off harmful bacteria's

• #4- HIV Patients- also compromised immune system, hard to fight off harmful bacteria's

• #5- Children 5yrs old and under- immune system under developed, not able to fight off harmful bacterias

• #6- Pregnant Women- immune system weakened during the cycle of pregnancy making it hard to fight off harmful bacteria
